How to Make Your Customers Happy

8 Dec

I remember Christmas Day, 1987 well. It stands out as the greatest Christmas ever because I was nine and found this under the tree on that morning.

I was not expecting to find this awesome aerial killing machine sitting under the tree and it made a distinct impact because my expectations were exceeded.

The lesson:

Exceed your customers’ expectations

Under-promise and over-deliver and your customers will love you forever. I still remind my mum Father Christmas/Santa of what an awesome job they did on a regular basis nearly twenty-three years after the event because it made such an impact. This over-delivery had me thinking very fondly of her them for many years to come. Their personal brand was greatly boosted. Literally no christmas gift has come as close to making me as happy, I mean, I was literally as happy as this guy and nothing has topped it since.

The Empire Strike Back 8 Bit Version

If the Empire Strikes Back were created on an 8 bit machine this is probably what it would look like.

It’s All About The Experience

Is this the future of advertising? In order to grab ever diminishing attention spans perhaps we have to create experiences and abandon the concept of traditional advertising altogether?

Sounds like work for some and opportunity for others.
