How to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Your QR Codes

9 Aug

To QR code or not to QR code? That is the question for many marketers right now as they toy with the concept of what to many is nothing more than a gimmick. With a growing take up by the Australian public I can see why many more are considering the concept but if you’re really keen to determine just how many are using the code here is a quick and easy way to do so.

Step 1.

Either create a custom URL or use a URL shortening service that tracks the number of clicks which you will only promote via QR code. Some good free URL shorteners include bit.ly and goo.gl

Step 2.

Copy that URL and paste it into a QR code creator like this one here

Step 3.

disseminate the code – print ad in a newspaper or magazine or a direct mail piece, carrier pigeon, whatever.

Step 4.

Check the number of clicks to that URL.

Using Analytics you should be able to filter out all visits that cannot be attributed to the code to help determine just how many visits to the page were generated by it.
