Why you should treat Facebook like Outlook

27 Feb

Get to work
Power up machine
Open Outlook/Thunderbird/email client of preference
check emails
open Explorer/Safari/Firefox/browser of choice
open Facebook and check overnight action
open news portal and check

don’t let the morning routine end there if you’re a dedicated Facebook page admin
leave Facebook constantly open and make sure to check EVERY and I mean EVERY notification as it arises so that you can respond spedily when it comes time to – delete spam, reply to a comment or liker post or whatever action your page sees. Treat Facebook much like you treat your email client by leaving it constantly open for the entire workday.

Ignoring activity on Facebook is becoming as impolite as ignorning a phone call or email, keep the page open through the working day so that you will be able to pounce on and moderate activity instantly.

It’s Friday!

Why your social media teams need to be certified

21 Feb

Oversee social media for a large organisation?

Have multiple social media teams?

Bring order to chaos – implement mandatory training and certification of all social media touchpoint administrators before they are given the keys to a page/account/group.

The skill sets and social media nous of your teams will vary wildly, standardise it so that everyone is on the same page and save yourself a lot of heartache down the track. Excellence when it comes to customer service through social media is about paying attention to fine detail, don’t take any chances. Show your teams what to look for and the obscure details that need to be attended to because a minor oversight can result in major consequences.

Weakest Link In the Chain

Local butcher places flyer with a request to “like us on Facebook” in every shopping bag – GOOD
They incentivise customers to do so with a chance to win a $50 voucher – GOOD
I search Facebook and discover that they are referring to a personal account profile and not a proper Facebook page which is what they should be using as a business – BAD

If you are going to invest funds and energy into driving existing and potential customers to a social media presence, make sure it’s been set up correctly.
