How Creating Links Creates Riches

17 May

What do Alex Tew (Million Dollar Homepage), Jordan Belfort (The Wolf of Wall Street) and Eugeni Tsvetnenko (SMS multi-millionaire) have in common other than the fact that they are entrepreneurs?

They all made their fortunes by creating links that no-one else saw or thought worthy enough of their time.

Jordan Belfort made his many millions by being the first to try to sell sub $4 stocks to the top 1% of high net worth Americans. In his own words “no-one had ever done that before.”

Eugeni Tsvetnenko made his fortune by being the first to link up SMS subscription services with Google Adwords advertising.

Alex Tew made over a million dollars by linking up his original advertising idea with a traditional media publicist.

Do you see what happened there?

They creatively formed links that no-one else had and reaped the rewards for doing so.

Personally, one of the greatest traffic driving successes I had was when I started producing technical analysis videos for Youtube five years ago. The traffic to what had been up until then a text only affair exploded overnight because I was one of the first to link this new fangled technology of on demand online video with technical analysis tutorials.

Are there links in your industry that you could be making?

What's your preference, Mal – Youtube or Vimeo? Youtube probably gets more views, but vimeo – IMHO – has better interface, security and features (ie: geo tracking etc).

    Thoughts?

agreed, vimeo is superior for all the reasons you described above. Unfortunately, in terms of driving traffic Youtube is pretty much mandatory and at the end of the day you can always upload to both anyway should traffic generation be your prime concern.

When I was uploading to youtube I was also uploading to Google Video (this was before Google bought them). It was clear that Youtube was driving more traffic even then.
