How to Get People to Revisit Your Site Regularly
21 May
I visit Speedhunters because:
1. It covers a subject that interests me
I like cars, Speedhunters has lots of flashy pictures of interesting and exciting cars.
Be specific when it comes to the web. There are a zillion general news sites out there. The web allows you to connect and do business with like minded individuals who share your very specific interests and expertise. Don’t confuse your audience by trying to be everything to everybody, pick your niche instead and stick to it.
The message I send through this site is “I am an online marketing expert.” If I were to start creating content about cars or aeroplanes or the financial markets or anything other than topics related to online marketing then I would be confusing my audience and probably end up losing them in the process.
2. It always has fresh content
Speedhunters is updated EVERY SINGLE DAY. I am guaranteed that I will be greeted with fresh new content every time I visit. I don’t re-read the old posts and look at the old pictures, it’s the new stuff i’m interested in.
You wouldn’t watch last Thursday’s nightly TV news or read last Monday’s paper, would you? If updating your web site is a hassle then get one that isn’t or update your Twitter or Facebook page in the least.
3. It looks nice
The photos and stories are always produced to a very high, professional standard.
How seriously would you take someone who had a website that looks like this?
4. It’s easy to use
Speedhunters is easy to navigate and loads fast. It doesn’t take very long to get into the content, you just load up the page and can absorb it intuitively.
Conclusion
So there you have it, if you build a website that lacks any of the above and are expecting alot of people to take an interest in it and then revisit it regularly then you are going to be disappointed.
Build a site that adheres to the above and you’ve got yourself a winner that’ll have them coming back for more.
